Quilting Supplies
Every quilter has their favorite tools, and there’s no right or wrong choice— just what works best for you. Here is a list of tools I’ve used over the years. While some of mine are older, I’ll provide comparable options if I can’t find the exact ones I use.
Gingher Knife Edge Scissors - Gingher Dressmaker’s Fabric Scissors - 8” Stainless Steel Shears. They are expensive but I have had mine for many years. Consider this an investment into your craft. You can get a less expensive pair that will also work. These are a nice pair - Fiskars RazorEdge Fabric Scissors - 8" Heavy Duty Fabric Shears with SoftGrip Ergonomic Handle.
Olfa Rotary Cutter-45MM - Very Sharp so be careful. There are so many different types but I have always used a straight cut like the OLFA 45mm Quick-Change Rotary Cutter (RTY-2/C) - Rotary Fabric Cutter w/ Blade Cover
Olfa Replacement Blades - Always use sharp blades. OLFA RB45-1. These are very sharp so be careful.
Self-healing cutting mat. I almost always use an 18” x 24”. Some quilters use a smaller mat for smaller projects, however I use this one for most of my projects. Omnigrid 24WG Gridded Mat, 18 x 24-Inch. Sometimes I use a 11” x 24” mat.
Rulers -To begin with you may want to buy this ruler. OmniEdge 5-by-24-Inch Non-Slip Quilter's Ruler or this one Omnigrid 6 in X 24 Quilting Ruler, 6" x 24", Clear. The OmniEdge 5 in x 24 in feature clear acrylic construction with black markings, an 1/8 inch lip mat to help prevent slipping. I use this ruler more often because it helps to prevent slipping. There are so many to choose between but I primarily use this ruler for everything. Additionally, I use a square ruler. You can get a set: Omnigrid Square Value Pack (2-1/2", 4-1/2", 6-1/2", 9-1/2") Quilting Ruler, 2.5”, 4.5”, 6.5” and 9.5”, Clear, 4 Pack.
Quilting Straight Pins - Dritz 3005 Quilting Pins, 1-3/4-Inch, Yellow .
Curved Safety Pins - Dritz 7216 Safety Pins, Curved, Size 2, Nickel (40-Count)
Seam Ripper - Could’t live without it. I use different types but this is one of the seam rippers I use Clover White Ergonomic Seam Ripper
